Hat Trick of Signings for Enderby

Enderby Band are delighted to announce three new signings in the run up to preparation for the National Finals at Cheltenham in September.

Charlie Denney – Solo Trombone

Charlie started playing aged 12 at school and at 17 he gained a place at the Junior Birmingham Conservatoire, progressing to the Senior Conservatoire the following year where he has just finished his second year. Under the tutelage of Ed Jones and Tony Howe, he enjoys the variety of styles trombone can offer, from Banding to Show playing. Before joining Enderby Charlie played for the Staffordshire Band winning the first section area on Solo Trombone. Away from playing, Charlie enjoys reading and long walks with his dog, Casper.

Andy Mayell – Solo Euphonium

Andy brings a wealth of experience with him to Enderby having previously played at Championship National Finals, Grand Shield, British Open, Brass in Concert and Mineworkers Contest.

His first experience of music was at aged 8 when played the violin. He soon realised the error of his ways and took up the Euphonium a couple of years later. Andy played with many local bands within the Kettering and Corby area and joined the Northamptonshire Youth Band aged 11 on baritone under the musical directorship of John Berryman. Andy progressed on to Euphonium a year later and later held the principal seat for 4 years.

Andy’s first taste of top section banding was with Towcester Studio Band who were then in the championship section. During his time with them Andy became junior slow melody champion of GB twice within 3 years. Aged 15, Andy was appointed to the principal euphonium seat at Kibworth Band who were completing in the championship section at this time.

Whilst studying music at college in London, Andy played for Redbridge Brass. After leaving college he returned to the Kibworth Band and during that time performed as a soloist with bands in Holland, Germany and USA.

Andy has also played with Rigid Containers/Travelsphere (now known as Virtuosi GUS) under the direction of some of the great conductors including John Berryman and Frank Renton and also The Ransome Band with Peter Parkes and Russell Grey. After Ransome’s he moved to Enderby Band to complete his first stint with us.

After taking a couple of years out, Andy returned to play Euphonium at Harborough and Kibworth Bands. He then moved to Jaguar Land Rover Band, winning the Senior Cup and gaining second place in the Grand Shield in consecutive years during his time there

Andy is now back at Enderby for second spell and is looking forward to the National Finals in September and the prestigious concerts and contests planned for later in the year and into next year.

Lewis Read – Cornet

Lewis has joined on back row cornet. Lewis is one of the Organisations success stories, having learned to play cornet in the Enderby Junior Band, he progressed from there to the Enderby Youth Band where he played both cornet and more recently soprano cornet. Lewis has now taken the next step up and joined the Enderby Band to sit alongside the rest of our talented back row.

“These are great additions to the Enderby line up with a huge variety of experience. It’s also fantastic to see yet another player moving up through the Organisation from our Junior and Youth Bands to join the seven other players currently in the Band who are also home grown”.
