On Sunday 22nd April, Enderby Youth Band took part in the National Youth Brass Band Championships of Great Britain, which was held at Warwick University.
The Youth Band entered the Intermediate Section, along with 14 other youth bands from around England and Wales. The band were drawn third and opened their 20 minute programme with ‘Starlight’ by Alan Fernie. This was followed by an outstanding solo from the band’s Principal Cornet player, Josie Allen, who played ‘The Sun Whose Rays’ by Sullivan, arr. Gardner. The band then played ‘Worcester Cathedral’ by Philip Sparke. Last but not least was the test piece ‘West Country Fantasy’ by Gordon Langford.
The band worked incredibly hard in the run up to the Championships and put on a fantastic performance on the day. This was recognised by the adjudicators who rewarded the band with a well deserved ‘Silver’ award. In addition to this, Josie Allen won the best instrumentalist trophy, which is a major achievement - there are some very prestigious names on this trophy who have gone on to achieve great things in their musical careers.
A huge well done to Musical Director Trevor Hounsome, Josie Allen and all of the Enderby Youth Band, this was a performance to be very proud of
